8th Grade Language Arts

8TH GRADE ENGLISH - COURSE OF STUDY

Welcome to 8th grade English class. We’ll have a lot of fun in here this year. We will use a variety of books and resources this year. I will also pull materials that I’ve found over the years that I really like and that I think you will like too. I hope I have materials that you find relevant to your life. So we will also read novels, plays, poems, and an assortment of non-fiction. We will study grammar and parts of speech.   We will also use the vocabulary workbook, Wordskills. We will do quite a bit of writing too. We will study vocabulary and spelling words. We will give speeches and presentations.

My grading scale is as follows:
   100% - 94% : A
      93% - 84% : B
      83% - 70% : C
      69% and below: Incomplete
If you score below a “C” on assignments, quizzes, and tests in this class, I will ask you to do it over. This will need to be done outside of class at a time that is convenient for both of us. That may mean before or after school, or during lunch. If it’s during lunch, don’t worry. You still get to eat. I’ll just have you bring your lunch down to my room.

Here are some class rules:

   1. Have assignments done on time. I don’t accept late work.
   2. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
   3. Come to class ready to participate, learn, and have fun.
   4. Always treat classroom visitors with respect.
   5. Treat all school property with respect.
